Senior Python Engineer

Job Description:

The client is a global investment management firm that specializes in systematic investment strategies.

Responsibilities:

- Maintain and modernize our shared Python library ecosystem: data access (datalib, rift, portfoliolib), machine learning, API services, and internal tooling

- Lead cross-repo runtime and dependency upgrades (e.g. Python version migrations across repositories), keeping the ecosystem current and consistent

- Standardize build and CI/CD across projects using GitLab pipelines: typecheck, lint, format, and test stages, with pyright and ruff

- Manage Python packaging and dependency resolution with uv (workspaces, lockfiles, private Artifactory indexes)

- Roll out and maintain shared project templates (copier) so every repo follows the same conventions

- Upgrade core data libraries (Polars, PyArrow, Pandas) and resolve compatibility issues introduced by new major versions

- Write regression tests to guarantee migrations preserve behavior across the ecosystem

- Collaborate with researchers and engineers who depend on these libraries daily

Requirements:

- Strong Python skills: comfortable working across many codebases, refactoring safely, and writing well-tested library code

- Deep familiarity with modern Python tooling: uv for packaging, pytest, ruff, static type checking (pyright/mypy), pre-commit

- Experience with data processing libraries (Polars, PyArrow, or Pandas) and the discipline to manage breaking changes across major versions

- Hands-on GitLab (or similar) CI/CD experience: multi-stage pipelines, caching, private package indexes

- Self-directed and able to own cross-cutting migrations end to end, coordinating changes that touch many repositories

- Experience in financial services or quantitative environments preferred but not required

- Good communication skills; this is a collaborative, small-team environment
