About the role

We are seeking a highly technical Senior Shopify Engineer to lead the replatforming of our legacy environment to a modern, scalable Shopify architecture. This role will own and work with the team to achieve an end-to-end migration effort — including architectural design, data migration, theme and app rebuilds, checkout modernization, and integration reengineering. The ideal candidate has deep Shopify Plus expertise, understands the constraints of legacy Shopify setups, and can architect a robust new platform that supports future growth.

Responsibilities:

1. Development Competency

• Build and enhance custom Shopify themes using Liquid, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS/SCSS.
• Develop and maintain custom private/public apps leveraging Shopify’s GraphQL APIs.
• Design data models, API workflows, and technical interfaces between Shopify and ERP, OMS, fulfillment, CRM, PIM, and marketing systems.
• Own complex UI/UX builds, dynamic components, and personalized shopping experiences.

2. Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Lead architecture and technical decision-making for Shopify themes, apps, and integrations.
• Guide junior/mid-level developers through modern Shopify architecture and coding standards.
• Evaluate new Shopify features, checkout extensibility, and emerging tools to ensure technical roadmap alignment.
• Providing training and guidance to the team in general about Shopify, to ensure optimal in-house use of the tool.

3. Performance, Stability & Optimization

• Drive performance optimization, Core Web Vitals improvements, and conversion-focused enhancements.
• Ensure site reliability, troubleshoot production issues, and implement robust monitoring/alerting.
• Optimize checkout flow, product discovery, and onsite search for revenue impact.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with UX, product, marketing, and data teams to plan and deliver new capabilities. Being able to communicate risks, constraints and progress effectively.
• Translate business requirements into scalable yet efficient technical solutions.
• Advocate for platform best practices, security, accessibility, and maintainability.

5. Cutover Planning & Launch Execution

• Own technical go-live planning—freeze strategy, staging validation, parallel testing, and rollback procedures.
• Work with cross-functional teams (product, QA, operations, merchandising) to ensure a smooth transition.
• Monitor and resolve post-launch issues quickly.

6. Strategy & Continuous Improvement

• Influence long-term e-commerce architecture and help shape the technical roadmap.
• Recommend new tools, frameworks, and processes to improve development velocity and quality.
• Prepare documentation for systems, workflows, and knowledge-sharing across teams.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional Shopify development experience; Shopify Plus preferred.
• Deep expertise in Liquid, modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3/SCSS.
• Strong experience with Shopify APIs, webhooks, and custom app development.
• Proven ability to architect and scale ecommerce solutions.
• Experience integrating Shopify with backend systems (ERP/OMS/CRM).
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to lead technical initiatives end-to-end.
• Experience mentoring or leading technical teams.
• Strong understanding of ecommerce performance, SEO-preserving migrations, and data integrity.
• Experience with engineering standards such as - Git development, code structure, naming conventions, branching strategy, testing, and modern dev tooling.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Hydrogen, Remix
• Familiarity with React, Node.js, GraphQL, and modern tooling.
• Experience with Shopify Scripts, Functions, Shopify Flow, and checkout extensibility.
• Understanding of analytics, A/B testing, and personalization tools.
• Knowledge of Continuous Integration and CI/CD pipelines.
